And so it begins...

...or, maybe more accurately, where to begin? As I write this first blog post to document the design and construction of my family's home, the house is now fully dried in. So I now have photos of an actual, real to the touch structure, and want to start sharing them with whomever is actually bothering to read this blog (thank you, by the way).

But diving right in seems too easy, and this project has been anything but easy. No, instead, I want to start from the beginning. I want to show the entire process: the sometimes ugly, confusing, expensive, rewarding, anxiety-inducing, exhilarating process of designing your own home. I want to show that even an architect has to deal with many of the same challenges you do, might make the same mistakes, and that being on the "owner" side of things has expanded my understanding and concern for my own clients. And lastly, I want this to be a fun and informative look at a project that my family and I have poured our entire selves into for the last seven years.

So let's get going!

This photo was taken in September of 2016, right after we had an offer accepted on the lots. It was a time of optimism, of visions of the future and naive daydreams :)
